Wow! Isn’t she powerful? Did you notice all of the diamond bees on Gloria’s jacket? Those are for the elite that earn them. ( I only have two and I am proud of them)

It’s a choice! You can decide to create energy or take it from others. I prefer to leave everyone around me feeling better than before I arrived. Have you ever hung up the phone after speaking to someone and felt that they drained all of your power and energy from you? That is what negative people do. You simply cannot afford to spend time with negative people.  If you don’t know anyone who is positive around you, find someone. Maybe you need a new circle of friends.

In direct sales, or any other home business, if it is to be, it is up to me. There is no “boss” looking over your shoulder. Even as a coach, mentor, or Sales Director, I don’t have the ability to MAKE you do anything. It’s all up to you.

Decide to become energetic. Decide to give energy to others. Just watch how your positive attitude becomes contagous and you become a people magnet.  Try it- It works!

Sometimes when times are discouraging it’s easy to forget that miracles happen every day. Do you believe in miracles? Are you expecting yours everyday and looking for them in unlikely places? I am! I just experienced one today. It has not been the first, either. God is still in the business of miracles, yesterday, today and always!
Here is a prayer that I love. (It was written by T.F. Kirkpatrick) If you are in a Leadership position, pay close attention because it was also written for you:

Lord I need to be a Winner

Lord, I need to be a winner

Mary Kay Ash and I 1997

I just returned from my Company’s Leadership Conference that was held in Phoenix Arizona. This is an event that is held each year in different locations in January for leaders in my direct sales company. I am filled with emotion from the reflections of previous conferences and my 23 years in business.

You see, it was this same Leadership Conference in 1997 where I had the opportunity to speak to Mary Kay Ash for the last time. I had qualified for a special dinner with her that year in Phoenix. As always, she never ate at those functions. Instead, she went around and talked to each of us, making us feel as though we were the only ones in the room. ( even though there were several hundred of us)

Looking back, that was about halfway through my career. I can hardly believe that it was 12 years ago! Just a couple months after that conference, Mary Kay had a series of strokes that left her without speach for the rest of her life. So you can imagine how much more I treasure that conversation now!

At that time, I had worked my business through a messy divorce and was a single mom supporting my three sons on my business alone. Sure, there were challenges, and life was difficult for me, but I can’t imagine surviving at all without that business.  So as you can see in the photo above, I was thanking her for all that my business had meant to me and my family with tears in my eyes. She listened intently, wiped my tears, and simply told me to “Pass it On.”

How ironic that this same Conference would be the location where my National Sales Director retired last week. She has been my leader for my entire journey. Although it is sad that she is retiring, the Family Security Program that is provided for those at her level will pay her 60% of her average income for the next 15 years, including the Cadillac of her choice every two years! The position is definitely one to aspire to achieve!

Like all retirement dinners, there were flashbacks and stories of “through the years”. How exciting that I was part of  half of the history of my Company! Sometimes you can see things more clearly when you look backwards.  I would like to say that I was an overnight success, or that it is a “get rich quick” business, but that is not the case.  Setbacks and disappointments were there for all of us, but persistence is the reason I am where I am today.

We were told at the Conference last week that with the uncertain economy that exists today, an average of 175,000 women will decide to start an at home direct sales business EACH DAY. All companiesare not the same.  Here are just a few reasons why my business is different-

  • We have Customer Brand Loyalty, recently rated number three behind Google and Avis in an independent study!
  • Our culture is contagious ! Positive people are encouraging and deliver hope to others!
  • A Direct Sales Company needs inexpensive products delivered in a convenient manor.
  • My Company is the gold standard that others model!

(This is a story that was told to me  23 years ago as a young new business owner. I’d like to pass it on!)

Once Upon A Time…an attractive, ambitious woman went into a beautiful store that has a reputation for excellent quality merchandise. She said to the owner,

“Sir, I would like to work for you. I will work hard, I will do a great job, and in return I would like the following:


1st…for everything I sell, I want to keep 50% commission!


2nd…I will find other sharp people to sell for you, but I want to be paid commission on everything they do, say 13%!




3rd
…I want to work my own hours so that sometimes I can work a lot and sometimes I can just take time off!




4th
…After 4 months, I would like the use of a car and I really prefer something elegant and rich! By the way,
I want it to be FREE…and of course, you would need to pay the registration and insurance!


5th...My family must come first regardless of any other appointments!




6th
...When I sell, I want ample recognition…not dumb little things like hams and turkeys. I mean luxury trips and dazzling diamonds!




Last...I want to promote myself into management entirely through my own efforts! Can you give me these things?”


The store owner was in shock! After he was revived, he began to roar in condescending laughter. Then he said, “Lady, you can’t be serious…you’re living in a dream world! You can’t find that kind of opportunity anywhere!” But little did he know that there IS an opportunity like that, and I have been living it for over 23 years now, helping others along the way!. We DO live in a dream world & the difference is our dreams DO come true. Why not let me help you make your dreams come true?

There is definitely a change in how we get our information that can make a huge difference if you use it wisely with your home business or direct sales. Yesterday is a perfect example in what some call the Miracle on the Hudson. US Airways Pilot Sully Sullengerger instantly became a hero as he made a controlled landing on the Hudson River (after losing both engines from a bird strike), saving the lives of all passengers and crew on board.

The real story here, is how quickly the information was distributed using Twitter. Within moments of the landing, Janis Krums uploaded a photo of the plane and posted it on Twitter from his iPhone, making him just as famous as the pilot!  Before you heard anything about the story on television news networks or internet news, it was already a trending topic on Twitter. ( For those of you who don’t yet use twitter, a trending topic is where you can search and follow all information on a story in real time as it is posted)

I have discovered the value in using social media in my business, but it must be done the old fashioned way, by developing relationships. Although I use Facebook, MySpace, Linkedin, and many other social media sites, the biggest benefit to my business has been from Twitter.

Who would have thought that using only 140 characters could be so effective in bringing people together? There is no room for drama, and by microblogging, you can use url shorteners to link to anywhere on the web sharing information that can be passed on to others quickly by “retweeting” or RT for short.

If you haven’t already jumped on this new information superhighway, why not start now? If you want to attract followers and make friends, here are a few quick tips:

  • Make sure to upload a profile picture so we can get to know you.
  • Put together a simple bio so that we know a little bit about you.
  • If you have a blog or website, put it on your profile so we can check it out before we follow you.
  • Start out by engaging in conversation with anyone that you find that you can add value right away.
  • Try to send a DM (direct message) to anyone who follows you, but DO NOT include a “buy my stuff” link. That is the quickest way to lose followers.
  • Make time every day to check twitter and soon you will be “addicted” like me.

Don’t get left behind. Not everyone in business has time or the skills to blog (although I recommend it) It doesn’t take much to reach out and share information with others on Twitter. You will be glad that you did! Tweet you later!

goal%20poster Do Goal Posters Really Work?This may sound to you like a project for you child in kindergarten, not something that can help your direct sales home business, but a goal poster is something that is necessary to complete your visualization of success.

Images that you create or select will cause an emotional response, making your goal an even more believable reality in your mind. It’s not important what you put on the goal poster, just find things that you really have a strong desire to become part of your life.

The images don’t all have to be related to your business. In fact, it’s better to balance it with things from every aspect of your life- family, business, spiritual, personal. For example, if weight loss is one of your goals for this year, you might want to put photos of images that cause you to feel as though you are in perfect health and fitness. Perhaps you are single and have a goal to change that this year. Find a photo of that “perfect” someone and visualize yourself having fun with him or her.

I can tell you for 100% certain that goal posters really work. Every single goal that I have accomplished in my 23 years of business was seen on a goal poster first. The year that my goal was to be Queen of Personal Sales ( that is, number one in the country) I borrowed a tiara from my “Power Partner” who had already achieved that goal. We took a photograph with me wearing the dress that I intended to wear on stage, with the sash, and the tiara. That became part of my goal poster. Not only that, I had copies all over the house!

The only problem that I encountered was weight related. The gown that I had visualized all year to be the one that I wore on stage, was a bit tight when it came time to wear it. My dear husband took out the seam on the side a bit where it would not be seen under the sash. I was that serious about my goal becoming a reality in every way.  Imagine my fear as I climbed the stairs on stage that the stitches would hold! ( Alex had a needle and thread in his pocket just in case)

How often should you make a new goal poster? I believe at least once a year, or whenever you have accomplished many of your goals. In the event that you have not yet completed the goals, you still need to create a fresh new poster, that will inspire you. Recycling the same goals and goal poster never works year after year!

Take some time today to create your goal poster. It does not have to appear professional, just personal. If you have a family, it’s fun to get them involved in making it. Did you know that people support that what they help to create? (even little people) This is another way of getting your family supportive of your business. The time will give you a great return on your investment!

n1275967884 235707 4450 How to Use Your Family as a Reason, Not an Excuse

Did you ever notice how many women use their family as a reason why they can’t achieve success in direct sales or any other home business. You know what I mean, the “wait until they start school, finish school, grow up, etc.”  I hear this all the time. What you don’t realize is that like everything else, it is a mindset, or attitude that causes this kind of thinking. I’d like to share with you some of the ways that I shifted my thinking on this.

I’m sure that you discovered that when you are talking on the phone, your children are usually disruptive or doing things that they know that they should not be doing.  Here are a couple tips of what worked for me.

I had special “treats” near the phone that I would give them to eat ONLY during my phone time. ( this was primarily used for unplanned incoming calls)  Each day I set aside a certain amount of time while they were awake and home to work on the phone.  I had some favorite toys, games, or videos that they could only play while mom was on the phone. (It’s important not to abuse the time on the phone, or this is no longer effective)

Everyone who is a parent knows the terrible feeling that is created by a screaming or clinging child, just as you are about to leave to do your business. Children learn how to manipulate you very early, and this is one of the ways that they can do it. I found an easy solution that also teaches your children about goal setting!

Start by taking your child or children on a shopping trip. Allow them to select something that they really want. (it can be shared or individual, that is your call) You can either take a photo of it, or cut out from a sale brochure or catalog. Then you put it on the refrigerator. If you are in a company that you earn prizes, if there is something appealing for them, this works just as well.

You decide the value of their “prize”, as well as the way that they can earn points towards getting it. I would give a sticker or star for each appointment that I booked on the phone, and each time that I left the house to do business. Even a very young child can see how it is getting them closer to what they want! It’s amazing how their cooperation changes once there is something in it for them!

You need to work on your end as well. Taking an active role in booking the appointments and holding them is important because children need to see results rather quickly. As they get older and can understand money,  put a specific dollar amount on each activity and put it in the jar. This provides a visual that motivates them even more.

When you have created supportive children, it seems to transfer over to supporting spouses at the same time. Even child care providers noticed the difference when my children were “working towards a goal”.

It has been said that what is “caught” is sometimes more important than what is “taught”. I believe this to be true. This is a perfect example. Each one of my children have grown up with an understanding of goal setting, affirmations, and visualizations. I never stopped and gave them a lesson on any of these subjects, either.

Now my oldest son has a family of his own and he works out of the home. I find him doing some of the same things with his children. Knowing where he learned it makes me smile.  Can you imagine how gratifying it is to not only create encouraging children, but see it being passed down to your grandchildren as well. I love it! Give it a try. I can’t wait to hear others’ success stories!

I decided that since I have many more followers on twitter and FACEBOOK than I do readers of my blog, I came up with a way to decide on what kinds of posts to include in the future to grow my blog subscribers. Give them what they want! How do I figure out what that is? Well of course, the old fashion way- take a survey.

To encourage women to take the time to answer the survey I will be offering some prizes in the end that will be selected randomly from everyone participating!
