You can find posts and ads all over the internet telling you why to start a business in direct sales. What I am going to share with you today is something that not many blogs write about, that is, why do people stay in direct sales?
I have found that the reasons people stay in direct sales are often very different from why they chose that kind of business. What I am sharing in this post, is from my own personal perspective and I can’t speak for other companies or even others in my company.
I am very proud of the fact that over half of my unit of independent beauty consultants have been with me for over a decade, some two. Certainly their life circumstances have changed multiple times through the years, so whatever attracted them to the business may or may not still apply.
The constant factor in each of these long term consultants’ decision to stay is having a consumable product and a loyal customer base that produce a great reorder business regardless of what is happening in their personal life at the time. I take the time to teach them how to sell the products and build customers for life. That produces long lasting income for them. Good customer service techniques keep those relationships strong and enable second and even third generation customers along with strong recommendations for referrals.
Another reason that they stay in business, is the friendships that are developed, and personal growth that they experience. Of course, the flexibility that attracted many of them to the business, is still a big attraction. Depending on what circumstances in their life, they can work as much or as little in their business.
If you are considering a home business in direct sales, take a look at other people in that company. I have been spotlighting a Superstar of the Month so that you can get to know them and learn more about them. Maybe you will see something that you have in common with one of them and understand better how a direct sales business can fulfill different needs for all kinds of people.

Nancy,
Thank you for all of your insight in the direct sales industry. You always offer such awesome content to your readers.."Like Me". I always love a woman in the hunt. Direct Sales takes blood, sweat and yes sometimes tears.
People think they are going to get in an POOF, two weeks later they will be sipping coconuts in the Cayman Islands with Gregg Davidson or Nancy Sutherland.. NOPE.
Its a business for winners and people who are inspired to become the people they know they were meant to be. Its not just a business, its a lifestyle. Some live it differently than others.
I Appreciate all you do and contribute to our industry. MWAAA!!

Hey Josh! Thanks for the Kudos! You definitely GET IT! Having the ability to keep going, and get up each time that you fall is something that not everyone is willing to do. It looks like you are one of those who made a choice to be a winner!
