An intresting comparrison, Why is it socially acceptable to play the loto, gamble in vegas, persue careers in entertainment, music and pro sports where hundreds of thousands of people put thier hopes and dreams on the line yet only a small handfull of these people walk away successfull and wealthy and trust me these industries do market excitement, hopes and dreams. Also why is it so offensive if someone belongs to a legit MLM company that offers a level playing field and has a shot at building a business and achieveing freedom based on effort?
The business model is very good for those who have little experience in running a business and not much money to work with that want to have their own business. It's the companies who use the model that need to be scrutinized carefully.

My suggestion is to explore the marketing plan. Each company is different. My company is not multi-level because there is on ly ONE wholesale purchase with the same price to the entire sales force and ONE retail purchase by the consumer. Look at the support that your company will provide. Do they have a product to sell, and most importantly are they willing to invest the time in teaching you how to become a sales professional? Really Multi Level network marketing is a perfect business, The process of distributing products or services directly to consumers through a network of independent distributors is known as MLM/network marketing.
