Would you like to make more money as a wahm (work at home mom)? The reason that I am qualified to coach women in Direct Sales Marketing is that I have done it myself. I have a proven success in an at home business. Since becoming Sales Director Queen of Personal Sales in 2005 , I have had many requests to share my “I story”. I hope that it inspires you to make your own success!
In January of 1986 when I started my direct sales business, my three boys were 4 to 9 years old. That first year in business, I really didn’t comprehend all that was possible my business.. I was having fun- once again out with other women, pampering them, and really starting to feel good about myself. Having 3 children in 5 years and staying home with them all the time had started to contribute to my lowered self esteem. I was an at-home mom by choice, but needed “something more”.
New Years Eve 1985 I went to bed sad, lonely, depressed and frustrated with my life. I prayed for something that could allow me to spend all the time with my family that I needed or wanted to, yet add something that would make me feel better and add to the family budget. (I was already a professional “Volunteer”) Believe it or not, the idea of a home business came to me in a dream that night. I didn’t wait another day when I called my consultant on New Years Day 1986 and asked what did I need to do to start my own business.
Working around my boys’ very active schedules, I earned my first Career Car in December 1987, became a Sales Director in March 1988 and earned my first Pink Car in June 1988. The first five years things seemed to be going fairly well in my business as I had done the Directors’ court of Personal Sales four times and Circle of Achievement. I recruited Phyllis who was in the Consultant’s Court of Personal Sales just one year after signing her agreement and she became my second offspring director soon afterwards.
In my personal life, things could not have been going worse. My marriage abruptly ended with my ex-husband being removed from the home in handcuffs, taking all of the assets except the product on my shelf! As a single mother of three, I immediately went out there with a focus on selling $200 a day, every day, no matter what- just to survive! Things were difficult for me, but it was really worth it. I was able to buy the family home on my direct sales income and my children never had to move or change schools. I still live in that same home today and it is now worth over $400,000!
The ten years I spent as a single mom and then an “empty nester” was filled with many challenges. The encouragement and support that I received from my friends meant more to me then than you will ever know.
In 1999 I lost my beloved father to cancer. While I was still grieving his loss, I was involved in a serious car accident with a tractor-trailer. During that very moment, I truly thought that I was going to die too! When I realized that I was still alive, I knew that God had a purpose for me. His refining process for me was so intense.Living alone and coping with severe pain, many different medications and procedures for almost a year, I had to depend on God each and every day in a way that I never before knew possible. That year I attended our Seminar in a wheel chair. After returning home, I was ordered to have complete bed rest for a month. (Remember, I was living alone with only my direct sales income) I worked my business with a phone and a laptop computer, recruiting 22 people that month! Soon afterward, I ultimately had major neurosurgery to repair my compressed sciatic nerve.
I was blessed with a complete and total recovery! The following year I married Alex Sutherland! Within the last few years not only was I given a stepdaughter but also 2 daughter in laws, and 2 granddaughters! With all of those blessings, my focus was still on just “surviving”. I had done it for so long, I lost my abundant thinking.
At our Seminar 2004 I made a decision to be Queen at Seminar 2005. My husband Alex decided to work full time with me in my business the previous September (2004) after retiring as a USArmy Officer. Can you imagine the thrill of setting and achieving a HUGE goal? On Awards Night, 2005, I was crowned Director Queen of Personal Sales! “I was just an ordinary woman, with extraordinary determination!”
Looking back, I realize now that everything that I had been through had a purpose. I needed to give other women hope by showing them the way. I let go and let God show me the abundant life that He had waiting for me.
My experiences with the products that I sell go all the way back to 1975; I wonder where I would be now if I started my business then. At that time I was living in Tennessee, married and working as a Cosmetology Teacher. Another teacher introduced me to the products and although I had an entire line of other products that I used to teach with, I bought it all. After hosting a class, she told me about the Career opportunity. I was so excited about it, but my husband was firmly against it. At that time, I was pregnant with my first child and I didn’t have the courage to go against him. A seed was planted though, and although I don’t even remember her name, I am so grateful for that first Mary Kay consultant who took the time to tell me all about the business. Since I had been using the product all of those years, I had gone through many different consultants. Yet no other consultant ever offered me the opportunity! In fact, two years before starting my business I actually had my consultant deny me the opportunity! She was leaving her business and moving to England. Because the business was not right for her, she did not even allow me the chance to talk to her Director and see if it would work for me. I am so thankful that Debbie came over my house on New Years Day 1986 because I told her that I wanted to start my business!
My belief in this Company has carried me through the times when I did not believe in myself. I have never seen this business not work when you are willing to put in the effort.Following a proven plan with values of God first, family second and career third your success is guaranteed! As women though, the biggest challenge that we face is our emotions. Working with discipline and purpose and not allowing our fears to get in the way I now know that anything is possible! “Expect great things and great things will happen!”I believe that anyone who has the desire to set a goal and the willingness to work can do anything that they want in this business by just holding 2-3 classes per week.
