This might provoke some discussion, maybe even controversy, but I am going to share with you what I have discovered in my almost 23 years in business. To be successful in Direct Sales and make more money over time, you must first above all be willing to develop customers and have a great product to sell. Anyone who tells you that all you have to do is recruit others to sell, in my opinion, is wrong. I have seen many companies come and go through the years who had that belief. Yes, getting in on the “ground floor” of a multilevel marketing company might make you a lot of money in the beginning, but if you don’t have a loyal base of customers using your products, it won’t stand the test of time.

Although Mary Kay is a Direct Sales Company, it is not a multilevel marketing company. There is only one wholesale purchase and one retail purchase. Everyone in the sales force has the same discount structure and the same opportunity to make money. I have seen people come into the business with the MLM mindset and recruit lots of people in a short amount of time. That will make them lots of money, but how long will it last? There is only one way to lead and that is by example. I have built a phenomenal customer base, one face at a time. Those loyal customers have been with me for decades with second and third generation customers as a result! These customers are the reason that I was awarded Queen of Personal Sales in 2005, then First Runner up in 2007! So learning how to sell is crucial. If you are in a direct sales company and you have not been taught to sell, find someone who is willing to teach you. That important ingredient is what makes my consultants the most loyal, dedicated, and committed business owners. Most of them work another full time job, but they have learned to sell and have no reason to ever walk away from their business. Over half of my unit of Beauty Consultants has been in business for over a decade.  A few have been with me since I became a Sales Director 20 years ago!

I am so thrilled that the internet has made this world a smaller place with the ability to interact and share with people all over the globe. That is what motivates me to write and coach you in your own personal journey to success! See you at the top!

I couldn’t agree with you more here. My goal is to master selling and booking and the rest will follow. My feeling is if I”m not selling why would anyone want to join my team? If I am successful in sales team building will be more natural to follow. People will see my results and want to emulate that. At least, that is my theory. :)
